Well the ice storm has officially hit. It rained/sleeted at about 5:30-6:00 this morning. Traffic is pretty slow on the highways, so Kaylee and I are going to enjoy a day at home- I guess I will be in school on President’s Day- boo. The way it sounds, we will get hit again this weekend, with possibly more rain and then snow. Sounds like great things are happening there and we continue to pray that God works through each one of you as you minister to these people. Sending our love and prayers!

We made it to Omaha without difficulty (well, 50 mile/hour gusts).
There is a ground blizzard at home with 49-50 mile/hour gusts. Everyone we talked to advised us not to travel home as I-29 is closed at Sloan, we heard that Sioux County is really bad–people that normally are very confident in the snow are staying home. We did let Pastor Mark know to put it on the prayer chain. Please let the group down there know! We had an awesome time!

I slept well, but I missed your sound machine, Lisa, it was just way to quiet!!! I will be going with Heidi to Guatemala City to shop for groceries and flowers. I understand it is like a Costco. She needs extra hands to push the carts with food for 35 people!! Can’t wait. Praying the drivehome is safe and all make it to their destination without problems.

First of all, I am TOTALLY jealous that you are still there…as I sat on the plane my heart kept saying, “Just get off and stay too!” But then I thought more about it and realized Dan would probably have a better week without me there ;). Seriously though as I read your posts it sounds like you are going to have a great week, and I’m sure they are feeling so blessed to have extra hands. I know you both are very special to them – thanks for being willing to be God’s hands and feet! I will pray for you guys this week, that God will move in mighty ways and that He will provide opportunities for you to show His love and grace. Thank you so much for all your work on the trip and for being such a blessing to us all. It was great getting to know you and Phil – I am so grateful to have been part of such a neat group of people. Well don’t have too much fun, and I can’t wait until you get back so we can hear stories. Stay safe and keep shining your light!

  31. January 26, 2010 9:56 pm

I went shopping in the capitol.. quite an ezperience. Started at a bolt store, only sold that and Heidi had to wait at the counter while they went to get them. Went to Mc D’s for noon lunch, bought a new stove for the kitchen, (one that the temp numbers work) bought groceries for next week, went to Honda for a motorcycle part, picked up the van we brokeand brought it to the airport. Traveled home in a traffic jam that took a long time. Stopped at Pollo Compero and made it back to the base 12 hours after we left!!!! Oh yea, we bought material for curtains for Heidi and Dan. What a great day and wodertful day with Heidi, Nate and Estuardo. God is good.

oh, Phiil fixed the hole in the ceiling above the girls sink and put soap dishes in the showers.
Went through more stuff down stairs and had a great day also.
Love you all and keep praying for God’s ministry down in Guatemala!!!

Just a normal day of shopping for you. Do you get to sew curtians for the windows or is Heidi, I know that she has gotten pretty good at sewing too. Sounds like you are just little mice doing lots of little things. Just keep serving! Vicki

  33. January 27, 2010 8:34 am

Dan’s mom is here this week, so she is going to help Heidi with the curtains. We truly are having fun just being little mice around the base. Dad has been fixing the ping pong table this morning, he hung the clock, and sorted more stuff. I told him he better be careful, or he would have to stay all the time cause he knows where everything is!!!! It’s been great! The next team came in at midnight last night, so God will be using them in the village. keep praying for his grace and love to be evident to all!
    Blessings to all!

Sounds like a fun day! You are going to have lots of different experiences to share about when you get home! I can’t wait to hear all the stories! We actually started school on time today and have a full day- I don’t know if I am going to be able to handle this 🙂 I have gotten kind of used to this part time stuff. Dave is working on figuring out which vehicle he is taking down on Sunday- so as soon as we figure it out, we will let you know. It is so good to hear what you guys have been up to. Enjoy your time! Amanda

  35. January 27, 2010 9:24 am

Sounds great Amanda, make sure Dave takes a winter coat along for us, I’m afraid we will need it. Yuck!
Vicki, I suggested Heidi make the curtains with the clip on rings like you have. Would you be willing to pick up the rods and clips for 5 windows. They are all 4 feet wide. She is planning on doubling the material. She also needs 4 – 2foot rods for their patio door. She will be hanging them against the 2 doors on top and bottom.
Dave, there is a bike that needs some took a bike apart that you guys bought on a sale, He thinks he threw them on top of the 3 stall by the tools. He needs the longest cable and thecomplete derailer. If you can’t find em, take off any other parts (cables derailers) off the other bike.
Loren, I know you are not real crazy about the computer in the shop, If you want, have Dave take it down here, with the mouse.
Thanks guys, you are the greatest! mom

MOM, are you thinking wal-mart and what color rods? For the patio doors do they want the ones that have a hook and screw that goes into the door? About how many clips are they thinking? Awesome God thing here. I mentioned to someone in church that we are in need of another pack n play thinking maybe they had one that they were done with. Instead they went out and bought it for us. Wow, how humbling. That will be coming down with the construction team, so I can put the curtain rods in the case of the pack-n-play. We got together last night with L&M and had a great time. Emilee ran up to Julia and about knocked her over with her hug. The kids all missed each other.
Justin is exstactic I think we are actually going to have Wed. programs tonight. He said it has been since before Nativity that we have actually meet. We had to cancel the Guatemala planning meeting on Sunday due to the snow so he feels like the weather is working against us continually. Caleb Finally went back to school today, the only day he had school was last monday, so he has been out for over a week due to weather. arg! We are doing great, although Miya a really fussy not sure what is up. God bless and love you! Vicki

Chad and Rachel, Thanks for your words of encouragement. You two are very special to us and miss your smiling faces. Remember, don’t normalize too much!

Vicki, The rods can be from Walmart, Nothing too expensive. The walls are the burnt orange and the trim is white. She is making one curtain for each window that are 60 inches wide. I’m not sure how far apart we usually space them, you figure it out! As far as the patio doors, they are metal and she wants to gather them on top and bottom. Something she can put in the metal. Glad you all can get out again. We don’t look foward to coming home to that! But excited to see you all! We enjoyed our afternoon lunch sitting outside in our t shirts, getting slightly warm!!!!! * DO they need a new laptop
*do they have a decent color printer
    *do they need office supplies

Okay so this is the plan as of now. The guys are planning on taking Justin and Vicki’s gray van down on Sunday for you guys to drive back this way. We will put your coats in there, and Dave said that they would stick the keys in the gas cap thing. Do you guys have your cell phone with you?? If you do, Dave can try to get ahold of you while you are both in Houston and tell you the general location of the van. Otherwise- maybe you will run into each other???? Um, so yeah. If the plan changes I will let you know.
Dave is busy getting things done here before he leaves, I just got back from a night of volleyball at church, and Kaylee is simply just Kaylee- getting into everything of course 🙂 So life here continues to be pretty normal. Take care. See ya in a few days. Love ya!

  41. January 29, 2010 7:57 am

Justin, don’t know what wifi is, they have two little acer computers for us to blog on, they got a newer canon printer, and as far as office supplies, not sure what you are thinking… not much help am I!!!

Thnks for the infoAmanda, no we do not have our cell phone. Do they know which parking thing they are planning on parking at? Will it be budget? Maybe dave can take dad’s cell phone along and put it under the drivers seat for on the way home. Dad was also wondering if one of the boys could pick up some 1/4 inch bolts that are 1/2 inch long to put the radial arm saw together. About 40 of them with the nuts. That is all for now, I better go help again, been kinda slow getting started this morning. Must be getting tired!!!
Melissa, went to theexplorer and no sun glasses have to go shopping for new ones!!!
Say hi to all the grandkids and give em a big hug for us, see you soon.

no problem….i forgot that you are on an old school wave length…. 🙂 Wifi is the wireless thing so that they can use a laptop anywhere in the base…like what you have in your home from Katie’s computer…

office supplies i was thinking do they need more labels or paper or anything like that for medical clinics or for the base…mainly…what are somethings that they need BUT cannot get or have a hard time getting in Guatemala…..i thought that the RCYF could take some stuff down this summer…..

Hope all is well and we will have the Pizza Ranch Pizza waiting for you guys when you get back:)

Yes, Dear son in law, they have WiFi, and they have an office Max in the capital. I also see a couple extra ink cartridges setting behind the printer. They can get pretty much everything they need. I’m thinking our flight comes in around 2 on Sunday. So depending if we can find the van, we should be home good on time! I’m still sorting down in the garage and dad is helping with the welding crew. They have the floor on the third floor, and are working on the steps right now. going to be nice. Also, say a prayer for Heidi, she is down on bed rest. Pray all goes well, She will be going home next week Thursday. Otherwise, all is well,

Dave said he talked to dad today about where the van would be. Dave was going to leave it right in the ramp there, since it will only be there like 12 hours. So hopefully it is not too difficult to find. They have the nuts and bolts that you needed, and we also got the curtain stuff from Vicki. We will make sure your coats and phone get in the van for you. Anything else?? Dr. Pepper maybe??? 🙂 Soak up a few rays for me before you head back here please! The guys have been doing all the welding stuff, but next week it will really come together! I can’t say I’m ready to leave this beautiful weather, but I guess I don’t have a choice. Cold weather is a coming soon. Yuck and double yuck!!! It sounds like our plane from Houston may be full, we may just have to take a bump for some extra plane tickets some time. Especially since no one is waiting for us! We will see once we get there. Any way just want ed to say thanks for picking up all the stuff, and I know you will get it all down here between the 5 of you! Safe travels!
